A Surprise Lake Minnewanka Proposal | A Banff Love Story

Some moments feel bigger than the mountains that surround them.

This lovely couple drove down from Saskatchewan with their dog, Bolt, expecting a quiet walk along Lake Minnewanka. The air was crisp with gently falling snow and the mountains standing quietly in the background. What she did not know was that he was about to ask a question that would change their lives.

I arrived early and blended into the scene, taking photos of my daughter at the lakeshore so everything felt natural and unassuming. No signs, no suspicion, just another peaceful moment by the water.

He was understandably nervous. The kind of nerves that come from loving someone deeply and wanting the moment to be perfect. And when the time came, he did beautifully.

As he proposed, everything seemed to slow down. Bolt stayed close, part of the moment and part of their story. Love has a way of doing that, expanding to include the lives, memories, and little details that matter most.

She said yes, of course!

There were smiles, happy tears, and quiet laughter as the reality of the moment settled in.
