Banff Vow Renewal at Lake Minnewanka
Some love stories don't begin with a grand gesture. Sometimes they begin in high school.
Twenty years after saying "I do," the Luna family traveled to Canada for the very first time to celebrate their anniversary in one of the most breathtaking places on earth—Banff National Park.
When they first reached out, they told me they were hoping to renew their vows on their actual anniversary! They dreamed of mountain views, an elevated overlook, and the warm glow of golden hour. As self-proclaimed sunset lovers, they couldn't have imagined a more fitting way to celebrate two decades of marriage.
Lake Minnewanka gave us exactly that.
As the evening light softened across the mountains, they shared a private, heartfelt vow exchange overlooking the lake. There were no elaborate decorations or large audience—just the two of them, reflecting on twenty years of marriage and the life they've built together.
Their story is one that spans decades.
High school sweethearts. Twenty years of marriage. Three sons. Countless ordinary days woven together into something extraordinary.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening happened before they renewed their vows.
As an anniversary gift, she surprised her husband with matching moon jewelry. Their last name, Luna, made the gift beautifully symbolic. It wasn't just a piece of jewelry—it represented their family name, their shared identity, and the love that has remained constant through every season of life.
Those are the details I love most as a photographer.
Not the perfectly posed moments, but the ones filled with meaning. The small gestures that tell a story no one else could.
There's something incredibly special about photographing a vow renewal. A wedding celebrates the promises you're about to make. A vow renewal celebrates the promises you've already lived.
After twenty years, those words carry a different kind of weight.
It was such an honour to document this milestone and welcome the Luna family to the Canadian Rockies for their very first visit. I hope every time they look back on these photographs, they're reminded not only of the mountains and the sunset, but of the life they've built together—and the choice they continue to make every single day.
Happy 20th anniversary, Luna family. Thank you for trusting me with such a meaningful chapter of your story!
