Sunrise Anniversary Session at Moraine Lake
Some sessions are about beautiful scenery. Others are about celebrating a milestone. Rocelyn and Moises' sunrise session at Moraine Lake was both.
These two traveled from California to Banff to celebrate five years together. While they'd both been dreaming of visiting the Canadian Rockies, this trip had an even deeper purpose—it was their first professional photoshoot together and a way to commemorate a season of life they'll never get back.
Like many couples, Rocelyn admitted before the session that she was nervous about being in front of the camera. She told me she wasn't naturally confident having her photo taken and hoped they would end up with images they could proudly hang on their walls one day. By the end of the morning, it was so rewarding to see the two of them relax, laugh together, and simply enjoy being present with each other.
The morning greeted us with crisp mountain air and the iconic turquoise waters of Moraine Lake. Sunrise in the Rockies can be surprisingly cold—even in June—but Rocelyn came prepared with beautiful neutral tones that complemented the landscape perfectly. As the first light reached the mountains, we explored different viewpoints, capturing everything from quiet, intimate moments to joyful laughter between them.
Although Moraine Lake was busier than they had expected, we made the most of every opportunity. Sometimes that's part of photographing one of Canada's most iconic locations—you adapt, embrace the experience, and focus on the connection between the people in front of the camera.
It was an honour to capture this chapter of their story—before the engagement, before the wedding, and before all the exciting milestones still to come. These are the seasons that often pass by the fastest, yet they're the ones that become priceless memories years later!
