Lake Louise Winter Engagement Session

I was definitely third wheeling this session in the best way possible.

Some sessions feel less like a first meet and more like catching up with people you somehow already know. This was one of those.

These two make the trip up from Seattle almost every year, which honestly is kind of impressive commitment when you think about border crossings, weather, and the general chaos of planning travel in winter. But for them, Banff has become part of the routine. A snowy reset, a place for skiing, wandering, and doing all the winter things they love.

This year was a little different though. They had recently gotten engaged and are planning their wedding for next year, so the trip already had that extra buzz to it. Naturally, they wanted to do a session while they were here, and specifically wanted snow. Not just a hint of it. Full on winter!

Lake Louise in March delivered exactly that. Snow everywhere, soft light, and just enough cold to make you question your life choices while also forgetting about it the second you look at the mountains.

From the start, they were so easy together. The kind of couple that doesn’t really need much direction because they’re already halfway into their own world. A lot of laughing, a lot of teasing each other, and a general vibe of “we’re just going to do our thing and you can document it.” Which is honestly the dream.

Lake Louise always looks a little unreal in winter, but it somehow felt even better watching them move through it like it was just another place they’ve added to their shared list of memories.

By the end, it didn’t feel like a formal session at all. More like tagging along for a small piece of their yearly Banff tradition, just with a camera in hand and colder fingers than expected.

And honestly, that’s usually when the best images happen anyway!
