Windy & Wonderful Family Session at Fish Creek Provincial Park in Calgary

Some photo sessions feel like a little adventure, and this one definitely did.

What was originally planned as a cozy fall shoot in Banff turned into a last-minute pivot because of the unpredictable mountain weather. A storm was rolling in fast, so we made the call to move the session to Calgary for safer and hopefully calmer conditions. Spoiler: the weather still had big plans for us.

But honestly, that ended up being one of my favourite parts of this session.

As the shoot went on, the wind picked up, the temperature dropped, and the sky shifted from soft and cloudy to a full storm. This sweet family took it all in stride. They hugged tighter, laughed harder, and held onto each other a little more. The photos show it all. Sometimes the not so perfect weather creates the most perfect memories.

We started in a quiet field surrounded by warm fall colours and let the kids run, play, and explore. They climbed logs, chased each other through the trees, and chatted with me about everything from leaves to fast cars. One even made an appearance at the end of the session! Their energy and silliness brought so much life to the chilly air.

As the wind started whipping through the trees, we moved to the bridge area for more family shots. These ended up being some of my favourites. Hair blowing, leaves swirling, parents laughing. Nothing felt posed or stiff. You can feel their connection in every frame.

By the time the storm really rolled in, we were all cold, windswept, and completely in it together. That is the magic of sessions like this. Not everything goes according to plan, but the unplanned moments are the ones families remember most.
